Meet Your Sweater Design Teacher

Hi, I’m Clare Mountain-Manipon. I’m a knitwear designer, teacher, and the person behind Sister Mountain.

I studied fashion knitwear design at university, and before becoming an indie designer in 2016, I worked in both the commercial knitwear industry and bespoke tailoring. Since 2020, I’ve been helping knitters design sweater patterns, whether they’re learning from scratch or trying again after a false start.

If you’ve ever worried that your ideas aren’t original enough, or that you’re not experienced enough to design a sweater, you’re not the only one. That’s exactly why I made this video.

It’s a gentle introduction to what really matters when you’re just starting to design knitting patterns. If you’ve been waiting for a sign that it’s time to begin, this is it.

What Sweater Design School Students Are Saying

"Before joining Sweater Design School, I was worried that I wouldn't be clever enough to understand it, but it is incredibly thorough in terms of content and the level of support you provide. Participants can always reach help as needed."

- Elisabetta

“For someone like me with no design background, it's no exaggeration to say that this course saved me years of trying to design, grade and publish a sweater using books and Google searches! I now have solid confidence in the process.”

- Abigail

“I recently retired, so the timing was perfect for enrolling in Sweater Design School. Since enrolling, I have designed two jumpers that are either with the tech editor or being test-knit. I have also created my own spreadsheet for an unusual construction which the course gave me the confidence to do.”

- Kate

“Sweater Design School has been fantastic. Each module filled me with excitement. I am certainly not someone who enjoys working with spreadsheets, but the lessons for pattern grading were delivered in a way that has made me a fan. I still smile at seeing the grading spreadsheet after thinking there was no way I could do it.”

- Stephen
