Got a sweater idea in your head, but no clue where to start? In this free workshop, I’ll show you how to turn that idea into a real, step-by-step plan, even if you’ve never designed before.
How to gather inspiration with purpose, and create a mood board that keeps your design focused and exciting
How to sketch your ideas, even if you’re not “a drawing person”, so your vision is clearer from the start
How to swatch and test your ideas, so your design feels intentional (not like guesswork)
You’ve been knitting for years, but when it comes to designing, you still feel like you’re guessing.
You’ve tried designing before, but didn’t finish or lost confidence along the way.
You want to stop winging it and start designing with a plan you trust
Whether you’re thinking about designing for the first time or picking it back up after a false start, you don’t need to have it all figured out. You just need a place to begin, and that’s what this workshop is for.
I’VE BEEN KNITTING FOR YEARS BUT HAVEN’T DONE MUCH DESIGNING. IS THIS FOR ME?
Yes. This workshop is for confident knitters who want to start designing. You don’t need experience writing patterns or grading.
HOW LONG IS THE WORKSHOP?
It’s around 40 minutes. I’ll walk you through the process I use to turn a rough idea into a clear design plan you can actually use.
HOW DO I ACCESS IT?
Once you sign up, you’ll get a link to watch it straight away. No login or fancy tech needed.
WILL THIS TURN INTO A SALES PITCH?
At the end, I’ll share how you can keep working with me if you want to turn your idea into a full pattern. But the workshop stands on its own and gives you a clear plan either way.
DO I NEED TO PREPARE ANYTHING BEFORE WATCHING?
Nope. You don’t need yarn or sketchbooks or anything like that. Just you, a bit of quiet time, and maybe a cup of tea.
I’m Clare, and I’ve helped nearly 600 knitters turn their ideas into real sweater patterns they’re proud of.
I studied fashion knitwear design at university and worked as a swatch designer in the fashion industry, but none of that taught me how to write a hand knitting pattern. Especially not one that fits across multiple sizes.
When I started designing sweaters, I had no system. I was doing everything in a notebook, trying to work it out as I went. It was messy, time-consuming, and honestly quite discouraging.
Things only changed when I built a process that actually worked. One that gave me clarity and let me focus on the creative side without second-guessing everything else.
That’s the process I teach now. It’s simple, flexible, and doesn’t rely on you being “good at maths” or naturally technical.
If you’ve got a sweater idea and you want to turn it into something real, this is exactly where to start.
